What is common after a session

Redness, a feeling of warmth or tightness and mild swelling are common after microneedling. Some people notice dryness or light flaking in the following days. These reactions are part of how the skin repairs the micro-channels created during the session.

Why there is no one-size-fits-all routine here

Aftercare depends on your skin, the area treated and how the session was performed. That is why your practitioner gives you instructions for your own session, rather than a generic routine from a website.

Topics to clarify before you leave

  • How to cleanse your skin, and which products to use or avoid at first.
  • When you can wear makeup again.
  • When to resume active products such as retinoids, exfoliating acids or vitamin C.
  • How to protect your skin from the sun, and for how long to be especially careful.
  • Whether to avoid intense exercise, saunas or swimming for a while.
  • When your next session would be, if a series is planned.

Signs to report quickly

Contact the clinic promptly if pain, swelling or redness increases instead of settling, if you notice pus, blisters or a cold sore outbreak, or if you develop a fever. Seek medical care if the reaction seems severe.

Planning around an event

If you have an important event coming up, mention it when you book. Your practitioner can tell you how much time to allow between the session and the event.
